The Prostate Conditions Education Council (PCEC) is pleased to be a teammate of ON THE LINE, a new initiative that will use the powers of sports entertainment to encourage men to get off the sideline and take charge of their health.

It takes a powerful team to motivate men to take a proactive role in managing their health and ON THE LINE has brought together a winning team of organizations, partners, sports legends, commentators and celebrities to launch prostate cancer to the forefront as critical men’s health issues. Among these partners is the Prostate Conditions Education Council and fellow teammates Us TOO International Prostate Cancer Education and Support Network, ZERO — The Project to End Prostate Cancer, the Oncology Nursing Society and the American Society of Clinical Oncology as clinical advisors. Through commercials and interviews, the programs all-star cast of sports and entertainment personalities including coaching legend Digger Phelps, basketball coaching legends Bob Knight and John Thompson and ESPN’s commentator Erin Andrews, whose father is a prostate cancer survivor – will drive home the message that men need to get in the game and take charge of their health.

Use the Best Defensive and Offensive Strategy Against Prostate Cancer

Richard “Digger” Phelps scored a victory against prostate cancer in 2010.  According to the legendary former University of Notre Dame basket-ball coach and current ESPN color analyst, his game plan for cancer was much like his basketball strategies: take action early and be aggressive. Today, he’s trying to motivate every man over the age of 50 to follow the playbook that saved his life — get educated, get tested and do what your doctor tells you to do.

“In life as in basketball, it’s the system that beats the pressure,” he said. “For me, the system ... beat the pressure because  I trusted what (the doctors) were doing.”

Coach Phelps — who stresses the importance of regular screenings — likened his experience with cancer to shooting free throws, saying that proper preparation sets the table for the desired outcome.
