A national organization committed to men’s health, the Prostate Conditions Education Council (PCEC) is the nation’s leading resource for information on prostate health. The PCEC is extraordinarily successful with patient education and awareness programs. Through a wide variety of forums, the organization has reached millions of men, and the women in their lives, about prostate health, the importance of early detection, available treatment options and other men’s health issues.
Prostate Cancer Awareness Week and Early Detection
Since 1989, PCEC has coordinated national Prostate Cancer Awareness Week, a program initially offered in September. Through this program, the PCEC organizes hundreds of free or low-cost screening sites for more than 125,000 men each year across the country. To date, the program has resulted in nearly 5 million screenings for prostate cancer, BPH and other health concerns.
SET the PACE Race Series
Men, women, families, friends and neighbors – at all fitness levels – are invited to participate in the PACE Race. This 5K run/walk series was launched in 2001 by the PCEC to increase awareness of prostate cancer and to educate men and their families on the importance of early detection. With events across the country, the PACE Race Series has the ability to touch men and women of all walks of life.
Research
PCEC is dedicated to advancing prostate cancer research and developing new technologies for the detection and treatment of the disease. Data and serum from our Prostate Screenings have provided critical data for analysis, longitudinal studies and clinical trial recruitment. Current research focuses on data from our Know Your Numbers Campaign, which includes data on a variety of men’s health conditions including PSA, testosterone, cholesterol, PCA3 and more. Our research contributions are commonly seen in peer reviewed publications and abstracts at national medical meetings.
Tackle Prostate Cancer
To promote prostate cancer awareness, education and screening, PCEC has partnered with several National Football League (NFL) teams. This program offers fans important information on men’s health issues, often in conjunction with pre-game activities and local screening events. Recognizing the importance of this initiative, football greats, including the Dallas Cowboys Tony Romo, Redskins Joe Theismann, Steeler’s linebacker Robin Cole, Bronco’s middle linebacker Al Wilson and Lion’s defensive tackle Tyoka Jackson, have dedicated their time to the program.
Team Up Against Prostate Cancer
National Soccer Hall of Famer Marcelo Balboa has teamed up with the Prostate Conditions Education Council (PCEC) to encourage men to take an active role in helping to protect their prostate health and Major League Soccer games around the country.
Stay on Track
Driven by NASCAR champion Kyle Petty, the national Stay on Track program encourages men
Father’s Day Awareness
Every Father’s Day, PCEC encourages families to give the men in their lives the gift of life by scheduling a screening for prostate cancer. Colin Powell, a father of three and prostate cancer survivor, serves as the national spokesman for the Father’s Day Awareness Campaign.
PCEC Spokesmen
The PCEC has been honored to work with several nationally recognized individuals to carry the message of prostate health. These influential men – including Denver Nugget’s coach George Karl, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, General Colin Powell, and actor Andre Braugher – have helped to raise national awareness of this serious disease.
